This is the first year of the RHS Flower Show at Chatsworth. My studio is only 45 minutes away from the show, at Yorkshire Artspace : Persistence Works in Sheffield. I have handmade planters and birdbaths for sale in my studio, and I will be there over the weekend so if any visitors to the show would like to come along, please email me.
You can see a selection of some of my garden ceramics here https://hannewestergaard.co.uk/garden-ceramics/
For a few months I’ve been working on some new pieces of work inspired by British wildflowers.
These have been fired in my wood/soda kiln. The decoration has been inspired from poppies growing everywhere where there is an opportunity.
You find them in gardens, on wast-grounds in the city, in fields. Red, yellow and orange.
Poppies fascinates me, there they are one morning ,gone by evening, next day many more opens up and they stand there, looking so fragile, and add their colours to the environment.
The kiln, my soda/wood kiln has undergone a change in that my previous wood fired kiln had come to its end of its life and I pulled it down.It was replaced with an old, unused electric kiln converted into another wood/soda kiln.
I have as yet only fired it once, and I shall have to make a few changes to it, but I did get some good results.
In the photo my son ,Troels is helping me installing the kiln,
