Urban Joy Exhibition by Hanne Westergaard
Open 29th April until 29th May 2021
I am delighted to announce that after being cancelled in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, a major exhibition of my ceramics, Urban Joy, is at last going ahead in the Persistence Works Gallery at Yorkshire Artspace.
Urban Joy showcases new work inspired by the history and landscape of Sheffield and its surrounding countryside. The show also offers a glimpse into my past and celebrates a relationship with clay spanning more than 50 years.
As part of my exploration of the urban environment, I have discovered joy and hidden beauty in a variety of sources, from unusually shaped seed pods to the drain covers beneath our feet. I am fascinated by the process of adapting these forms into clay, which often changes them completely.
These interests are reflected in my new stoneware and porcelain slipcast pieces, in which I hope to draw attention to parts of the city that may often be overlooked. It’s in finding these points of inspiration that I find my ‘urban joy’.
The exhibition takes place from Thursday 29 April until Saturday 29 May 2021.
It will be open from 11 – 4pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
